Sergi outlines Almeria blueprint

Newly-appointed Almeria boss Sergi Barjuan has outlined his blueprint to survival this season ahead of Saturday’s “first final” against Granada.

The former Barcelona left-back was unveiled as Juan Ignacio Martinez’s successor earlier in the week but kicked off his reign with a 4-0 defeat at his former stomping ground.

“We want to add consistency to the performance we gave on Wednesday but be more ambitious and daring because we need to win,” he said at a Press conference.

“We want our fans to see a solid team, who work hard, deliver results and are committed to pulling themselves out of the situation which we all find ourselves in.

“These players are capable of embracing my ideas. We hope to integrate these new concepts into our football soon.

“Every game is different, and proof of this is that we played at the Camp Nou last week and are now playing [Granada] at home.

“There will be a fixed starting XI soon, but I’ll play who I consider appropriate for now.

“Granada have very good individuals, who can crush you on the counter and use the wings well.

“We’ll develop what we’ve been working on [in training], but at the same time we must try to minimise Granada’s good capabilities.

“It’s clear that both teams have the imperative objective of winning, but this shouldn’t lead us into making mistakes, and if we do, there must be as few as possible.

“All that remains are nine finals and the first is against Granada. Although our points tally isn’t good, we’ll try to engage with our supporters.”
