Official: Victor new Depor Coach

Victor Sanchez has been unveiled as Deportivo La Coruna’s new Coach following Victor Fernandez’s exit on Thursday.

Fernandez paid the price for a run of poor results, culminating in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Getafe, and the Galicians have quickly replaced him with their former winger.

“I’ve been waiting for a new project after four years alongside Michel, and for me there’s no better opportunity [than taking over at Depor],” he said at his official presentation on Thursday.

“My managerial debut will be in La Liga with Deportivo, a dream come true. It’s given me the adrenaline to achieve our objectives.

“My first child was born here. He’s a Coruna native, so I’ll defend Deportivo until death. I know my emotional attachment to this club.

"I'm looking to relive the atmosphere at Riazor which I seared and I’m, convinced that we’ll see it again with our wonderful fans.

“I told the players, ‘you’re all going to give reasons for the fans to be hooked [to Riazor].

“The players must forget the calendar and show attention, concentration and become protagonists because I believe in their potential.

The 39-year-old will make his managerial bow against Real Sociedad on Sunday as he looks to pick up a Depor side winless in their eight and currently languishing near the drop zone in La Liga.

Prior to his appointment, Victor spent seven successful years at Depor as a player between 1999 and 2006, before assisting Michel Gonzalez at Getafe, Sevilla and Olympiakos.

David Doniga and Ignacio Oria have also been brought in as Victor’s No 2 and fitness Coach respectively.
