Escriba: ‘Getafe will be tough’

Elche boss Fran Escriba believes Getafe will be difficult opponents when his team take on the Madrid side on Thursday night.

Escriba’s side are just three points off the relegation places, with El Geta four ahead of them, and he accepts they are going to be a tough nut to crack at the Martinez Valero if Elche are to gain a vital three points.

“Getafe are a very organised team at the back, with a good midfield and a good forward line,” he told reporters.

“They are similar to us and this is going to be a really important game because we have a demanding week.

“We’ve just got a good draw at Espanyol and must continue to take points, even more so against a direct rival, and it would allow us to go to Cordoba [on Sunday] in great spirits.

“Beating Getafe wouldn’t be definitive but it would leave us with a feeling that we are closer to achieving our aims.”

The 49-year-old also appealed to the Elche fans to go to the stadium and get behind the team.

“We need them. I know the kick-off is at a late time but if we want this club to continue in La Primera it’s essential we all pull together for the whole 90 minutes.”

In relation to the recent discord between the fans and board, Escriba said he would not like it to manifest itself during the game.

“There are seven days in a week and 90 minutes in a match to support Elche. We have the rest of the week for everyone to express their opinion,” he affirmed
