James: Clear penalty on Ronaldo

James Rodriguez has slammed the decision not to award Cristiano Ronaldo a ‘clear’ penalty during Real Madrid’s trip to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday.

Los Blancos emerged 2-0 winners at Vallecas thanks to goals from both men, but a potential turning point in the match came near the hour mark, when the Portuguese was booked for diving after he fell under Antonio Amaya’s challenge in the box.

“I’m happy because you have to suffer when you win, but we won and that’s the most important thing,” the midfielder said after the game.

“We didn’t change anything at half-time. The first half was intense but we knew they’d be more tired in the second.

“[Although we struggled in the middle of the park at first], we have good players like Luka [Modric] and [Toni] Kroos. Isco also came on and helped us get the three points at a very difficult venue.

“We’ve done well [in attack] for the last two games, but we must now continue winning.

“I’m happy [with my statistics this season]. If I can score goals myself then that’s a good thing, but I only want to help the team.

“When a team have good players, they must all stay focused and attentive. The boss is the boss [referring to Carlo Ancelotti].

“[The penalty incident] was a clear penalty, a huge penalty, but luckily it didn’t influence the game much. Still, it was a huge penalty.”
