Real Sociedad midfielder Sergio Canales has warned of the dangers posed by Atletico Madrid ahead of Tuesday’s game at the Vicente Calderon.

La Real have taken 10 points from the last 12 and Canales is hoping the run can continue against Diego Simeone’s men, although he acknowledges it is going to be difficult.

“It will be hard because Atletico are a tough team and our away form this season has not been good,” he told Marca.

“However, we are now a very competitive side that has got better and we trust in what we are doing.

“We know they are a team that play with great intensity and that makes them dangerous, but this is football and we must know how to overcome that.

“For us it will be a great challenge to win at the Calderon, yet we are going there with a lot of confidence.”

The former Real Madrid and Valencia player says he laments the fact the Basques did not show the same consistency earlier in the season.

“If we’d reached the level we are at now earlier in the campaign we’d be very close to the European places at this stage of the season.

“At home we’ve been really strong and we beat Atleti at Anoeta, where we also overcame Barcelona and Real Madrid, and now we have to transfer that form away from San Sebastian.”

Canales says he knows exactly what his team must do to take all three points away from the Spanish capital.

“We need to get the ball, remain focused and not make silly mistakes that will make it easy for Atletico to play in our half.

“It won’t be easy, that’s for sure, but now we have improved a lot at the back and have enough quality to face up to them,” he concluded.
