Alcaraz challenges Levante players

Lucas Alcaraz has challenged his Levante players ahead of Almeria on Saturday “to cross the river and reach the shore” before the end of the season.

The Valencians, currently third from bottom with 10 matches remaining, are level on points with Juan Ignacio Martinez’s 17th-placed side heading into this weekend’s crunch relegation duel at Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos.

“Getting three points against opponents who are going to fight in the same way as us [for survival] is very important,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“But even if we beat Almeria, there are still many more points to earn.

“Winning a match helps you psychologically, but until we reach the shore, we haven’t crossed the river [referring to his side’s relegation battle].

“We’re used to this very irregular schedule, but we maintain the desire to play football, win matches and bridge the gap.

“I think we’re experienced enough to know that the last 10 matches [of the season] are a countdown, that every game is important, but so do Almeria.

"In every game the mental factor is very important, it’s what makes everything good tactician.

“They will be very quick and dangerous in one-on-ones from the outset, so we want to win the match from the first minute.”
