Emery: Every game is transcendental

Unai Emery has described Sevilla’s remaining fixtures, starting with Saturday’s visit of Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, as ‘transcendental’.

The Coach also took the opportunity to clarify his position, amid speculation linking him Filippo Inzaghi’s job at Milan, and Gerard Deulofeu’s role in the team before the end of the season.

“Every game is transcendental, and games at the Sanchez Pizjuan are special and unique,” he began at a Press conference.

“There must be that synergy between the team and the fans with the maximum possible emotion.

“[Reaching] 58 points would be a significant step. We’re optimistic about our progress in this League, so this game is transcendental.

“This Saturday, we must put plenty of emphasis on every detail of our performance in order to win.

“We live with hope and want to convey our excitement to all the fans. We feel an extra force [with the fans on our side] but three points are the most important left at stake.

“There are constant rumours in football and most of them aren’t translated very well.

“When a team are in a good run of form, the rumours are mostly positive. Anything which flatters our work is a good thing.

“I won’t discuss it any further because I’m only focused on Sevilla. For me, our objectives are very important.

“My trust and confidence in my players are high, it’s just a matter of giving them minutes.

“Deulofeu’s growth is a good thing for us and we’re happy about his role in the national team.

“He’s happy and glad to have participated like he has done [for Spain Under-21s].

“Now we must give him confidence and the necessary minutes. There are times when you grow, even without playing.

“You don’t want to have setbacks, but you know you’re exposed to them. We know some injuries are natural because of the high demands caused by a long season.

“We must continue to strengthen our trust in Sergio Rico and expect further progress in him [while Beto and Mariano Barbosa are injured].”
