Jemez gunning for Madrid showdown

Paco Jemez has revealed that Rayo Vallecano “want to put on a show and enjoy ourselves” against Real Madrid following Friday’s 2-1 win at Eibar.

Goals from Alberto Bueno and Manucho were enough to cancel out Mikel Arruabarrena’s penalty, thus pushing Los Vallecanos into the top half of the table, and the Coach is confident his players can cause a shock next week.

“The truth is yes, these were three very important points,” he said after the match.

“[Ipurua] is a difficult venue, where you need maximum concentration and can’t allow any mistakes.

“We struggled a bit at first but had a spectacular second half. We had chances to score more goals but didn’t take them.

“[Eibar] are in a difficult and complicated dynamic. They managed 27 points in the first half of the season and I couldn’t believe it.

“This is football, but bad runs always end. When they get their first win, everything will become easier.

“[On Emiliano Insua’s substitution], Insua wasn’t injured. It was a technical decision because Eibar looked fresher after they scored.

“These are big words, but although we have a lot of respect [for Real Madrid next Wednesday], we want to put on a show and enjoy ourselves.

“Reaching 50 points and levelling our highest-ever position is a challenge.”
