Madrid begin ‘Operation De Gea’?

Real Madrid have officially kicked off their pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, according to AS.

Los Blancos have long been linked with the Spain international, and the newspaper claims they have already started laying the foundations for their assault, entitled ‘Operation De Gea’, this summer.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season and still has not entered renewal talks with the Red Devils, who are believed to have slapped a €68m asking price on his head.

However, while De Gea has reportedly informed AS that he would like to join Madrid, the uncertainty surrounding Iker Casillas means he has not completely been sold on the move.

Consequently, the capital giants may switch their attentions to Chelsea’s Petr Cech as a stopgap, before eventually landing their man in time for the 2016-17 season.

De Gea joined United from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 as a replacement for Edwin van der Sar and has gone on to make 168 appearances at Old Trafford.
