Negredo: ‘Los Che must finish third’

Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo claims Los Che must make sure they do not relinquish third spot for the remainder of the season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are currently one point ahead of fourth-placed Atletico Madrid as they seek a Champions League place, and former Sevilla and Manchester City man Negredo says it is a position they must consolidate over the last 10 games.

“We are third and that’s the minimum place we should end up in. This team is where it is because it always goes out and fights for the three points,” he told Valencia’s official radio station.

“Our next opponents are Villarreal and they are a solid and workmanlike team, so without doubt it’s going to be a very difficult match.”

Negredo also had words of praise for Javi Fuego, who recently signed a new contract extension at Mestalla.

“He’s a great teammate who does some fantastic work on the pitch that isn’t noticed as much as it should be.

“Nobody has ever given him anything and he fully deserves this renewal,” said the Spain international.
