Garitano: ‘Rayo a mirror for Eibar’

Eibar boss Gaizka Garitano has praised Friday’s opponents Rayo Vallecano and described them as a ‘mirror’ for his team.

The 39-year-old has seen his side falter since the turn of the year after a spectacular start to the season and they now lie just three points clear of the drop zone.

However, Garitano believes his club would do well to take a leaf out of Rayo’s book in the way they operate in La Primera.

“We will be up against a team that is a mirror for us to look at and they are on a good run, so it’s going to be very difficult,” he claimed at a Press conference.

“They are a team with a lot of personality and an attacking threat that is hard to contain. They also defend well and finish a lot of games with a clean sheet.

“Rayo usually have a mad 10 or 15 minutes in which you can’t stop them. They are very good up front and can cause any team problems. We’ll need to be very careful.”

The Bilbao-born Coach acknowledges his players are desperate for a win and is aware it could be a nervy run-in to the end of the season.

“There are 10 games to go and a win against Rayo would mean a lot. We’ll be going into all of them knowing victory would take the pressure off a little and defeat bring us nearer the relegation places.

“Physically the squad is better than a few weeks ago and we are in very good spirits. We have to prove that on Friday,” he added.
