Southampton join Chicharito chase

Southampton have become the latest club to run the rule over Real Madrid’s out-of-favour striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez.

The Mexican international is on a season-long loan from Manchester United at the Santiago Bernabeu and this week revealed his frustration at not having earned a regular starting spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s line-up.

According to the Daily Mirror, Saints boss Ronald Koeman is keen to land the 26-year-old as he believes that he needs more firepower to propel his side closer to the Premier League top four.

The Dutchman feels he would have more bargaining power in bringing Hernandez to St Mary’s if Southampton finish in the European places this term, although they may face competition for his signature as Wolfsburg, Stoke City and West Ham United are all monitoring his situation.
