Neymar ‘doesn’t know who Medel is’

Neymar continued his war of words with Gary Medel after the duo’s heated clash during Brazil-Chile on Sunday, claiming not to know who the midfielder was.

The Selecao emerged 1-0 victors at the Emirates Stadium, but the friendly did not go without controversy as the former Sevilla midfielder appeared to stamp on the Barcelona forward.

Neymar accused Medel of UFC tactics in his post-match interview, before the Chilean responded with a reference to the 23-year-old’s perceived acts of simulation on Instagram.

“Not in my opinion,” said Neymar when quizzed on whether Medel’s stamp had a place in football.

“I don’t know who he is. All I know is that he played.”

However, Neymar was more complimentary about Medel’s compatriot Alexis Sanchez, although he stopped short of possibly following his former Barca teammate to the Premier League.

"Alexis is a great friend of mine and I had the opportunity to play with him at Barcelona,” he told Brazilian newspaper A Bola.

“We understood each other very well, both on and off the pitch, and I’m happy to see him do well at Arsenal.

“Playing in England? I’m very happy at Barcelona and I have a long way to go here.”

Neymar was also awarded the Samba Gold, which recognises the best Brazilian player of the past year in Europe, on Tuesday, ending Thiago Silva’s three-year reign.
