Carvajal blasts criticism of La Roja

Spain defender Dani Carvajal has leapt to the defence of the national team following recent criticism over La Roja’s performances.

The Real Madrid man feels the negative comments have been unwarranted and is confident the new players boss Vicente del Bosque has incorporated into his squad will eventually come good.

“People in football have very short memories,” insisted the Real Madrid man at a Press conference ahead of his country’s friendly with Holland at the Amsterdam Arena on Tuesday.

“We need to bring new players into the system and help them to adapt to our style, so we must be objective.

“The team’s we’ve been playing against are leaving less space for us to play in but we are trying to maintain our philosophy of the game. Other teams still respect us.”

Carvajal admits he faces a tough task getting into Vicente del Bosque’s starting line-up, given he is in direct competition with Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran.

“Juanfran is a magnificent player and it means I’ve got a great challenge to force my way into this side.

“Nonetheless, I’m ready to play and produce the best performance possible,” he maintained.
