Ramos unfazed by anthem jeers

Sergio Ramos has refused to comment on the Spanish national anthem possibly being booed during the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.

The match will be played at Camp Nou and contested by the Catalans and Basques, both renowned for their nationalist ideologies, but the Real Madrid defender is keeping his distance from the furore.

“All the national team Coaches I've worked under have made me a better player and a better person,” he said at a Press conference ahead of Spain-Ukraine in Euro 2016 qualifying on Friday.

“My best memory of being with the national team was returning to Madrid with the World Cup [in 2010].

“Annoyed [with the Florentino Perez questioning in a recent Cadena SER interview]? Who said that? Not at all.

“Someone who doesn't know me might think that, but I always make light of things and if you don’t know me then it's easy to take it the wrong way. I wasn't annoyed at all.

“[On potential whistling of the national anthem during the Copa del Rey final], I won't be playing the final; [Real Madrid] were eliminated in the earlier rounds, so I'm sorry [but I can't comment on that]. Maybe next year we'll reach the final.”
