Vitolo eager for La Roja bow

Sevilla winger Vitolo says he is hopeful of making his Spain debut on his home ground in Friday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Ukraine.

The 25-year-old has been called up to the senior squad for the first time by Coach Vicente del Bosque and could not contain his enthusiasm in front of gathered media.

“Without a doubt my home right now is the Sanchez Pizjuan and it would be great to make my debut before my home fans,” remarked Vitolo.

“I’m sure there will be a big crowd because every time Spain play in Sevilla a lot of people come to watch, so it would be nice to make my first appearance.

“At the moment Del Bosque hasn’t told us who will be playing. My teammates have all welcomed me, better than I expected, and I’m excited about being one of the new boys.

“I’m hoping that I can bring a lot of desire and enthusiasm to the team.”

After just two training sessions as an international Vitolo says he has been more than impressed at how much quality there is in the Spain squad.

“On television you can see that this is another level and training with these players you notice it even more.

“The national team play at a quicker tempo and you have to think more, although every player likes to have the ball, but you are grateful to be here because the team always wants to play football.

“It’s very easy to get along with players such as these and being selected for the national team, with so many world champions, is already a success.

“Being a part of this I can’t wait to play my first game, yet if it doesn’t happen I’ll try to take advantage of the experience and work even harder with my club so that one day it will happen.”

Vitolo reflected on his rise to prominence since signing for the Andalusians from Las Palmas in June 2013 and told of his future ambitions.

“The first thing was to play in La Primera, which I did, and then it was to be selected for La Roja, which I’ve now achieved, and I’m very happy about that.

“The next step, to play in a World Cup or European Championships, is very difficult. However, if I continue to play well I might get the opportunity,” he added.
