LFP averts threatened strike action

The Spanish Football League (LFP) has managed to avert a threatened strike by the 42 clubs in the top two divisions planned for the weekend of April 18-19.

The plan to halt all football on the proposed dates was due to a delay in the introduction of a new law which would regulate a centralised television rights agreement, which LFP President Javier Tebas explained is expected to be established shortly.

At a meeting in Barcelona it was debated whether to issue another ultimatum through the media or await further developments, with the second option being agreed upon.

According to reports, Tebas asked clubs not to take matters into their own hands and promised a solution would be found, while a summit on Thursday involving the LFP and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) could be crucial in resolving the matter to the satisfaction of all concerned.
