Javi Fuego urges Valencia caution

Valencia midfielder Javi Fuego has warned his teammates against getting carried away as they chase a Champions League place.

Los Che are currently third in La Liga, four points behind Real Madrid and eight adrift of leaders Barcelona, yet the 31-year-old insists the philosophy of taking things game-by-game must be adhered to until the end of the season.

“We mustn’t look beyond ourselves and our idea of taking each match as it comes,” Fuego told Superdeporte.

“The important thing is that we are ready for our next game, which is against Villarreal, because this League is proving to be very competitive.

“You only have to see us in training every day to know that we are conscious of the need to improve even more.”

However, the former Levante, Recreativo de Huelva and Rayo Vallecano player feels the enthusiasm generated by the Valencia fans is something that can have a positive effect.

“We know we must keep our feet on the ground but we welcome the excitement of the supporters. It is a positive thing, while we must also try and distance ourselves from the euphoria.

“In the dressing room we are not speaking of anything else other than the next game,” he insisted.
