Khedira: ‘It’s hard to leave Madrid’

Sami Khedira says it is going to be hard to leave Real Madrid if, as looks likely, he departs the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The 27-year-old, who is widely expected to be returning to the Bundesliga with Schalke, has a contract with Los Blancos that expires in June after rejecting the offer of a new one before the start of this season.

However, with Madrid having signed Lucas Silva to cover Khedira’s position it now appears he is surplus to requirements in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, although he admits it will be with a heavy heart if he eventually leaves.

“I love Real Madrid and it will be hard to leave this club,” he is quoted as saying by Marca.

“I will give everything for this shirt until the last day of my contract, there should be no doubt about that.”

The German international, currently training with his country ahead of Wednesday’s friendly with Australia and the Euro 2016 qualifier against Georgia this Sunday, is understood to be keen to leave on good terms and is still hopeful of forcing his way into Ancelotti’s side before the end of the campaign.
