Florentino blames Casillas

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has blamed Iker Casillas for the Clasico defeat to Barcelona at the Camp Nou last Sunday.

Journalist Pipi Estrada, speaking on the El Chiringuito programme, revealed that Perez felt the result could have been different if not for Casillas’ performance between the Madrid sticks.

“The difference has been in goal,” Estrada alleges Perez told his those in his immediate circle after the game, Mundo Deportivo reports.

Barca goalkeeper Claudio Bravo saved several clear-cut chances in the first half, while Casillas was beaten by the Blaugrana’s only worthwhile attempt when defender Jeremy Mathieu headed home from a free-kick.

After the break, Luis Suarez fired past Casillas with the hosts’ first opportunity of the second half, while the Spain international’s actions in trying to prevent the goal were later criticised by Madrid’s goalkeeping Coach, Villiam Vecchi.

However, in Casillas’ favour is that he did redeem himself by preventing another Barca goal towards the end, although it does not appear to been noticed by his own President.
