Ramos: ‘We respect fans’ opinions’

Sergio Ramos has had his say on the Real Madrid fans who attacked Gareth Bale’s car and abused the players following Sunday’s defeat in El Clasico.

The alleged incidents occurred when the Madrid players went to collect their vehicles at the club’s Valdebebas training base after returning from Barcelona.

However, defender Ramos believes there are ways and means of going about things and making your voice heard.

“You have to respect everyone’s opinion but some ways of doing it are never justified,” said the Spain international at a promotional event in Marbella.

“Throughout my experience as a footballer I’ve learned that you must respect everyone’s opinion as long as you don’t disrespect anyone.

“You’ve got to put yourself in the shoes of those people who really make an effort but sometimes ways of doing it aren’t justified, like what happened the other night.

“Usually nothing happens at the gates of Valdebebas. When we arrived we saw them [the fans] but didn’t think anything was going to happen. They were lads my age.

“I was behind Jese Rodriguez’s car and heard what they were saying, so I stopped the car, wound the window down and asked them what the problem was, and they began shouting insults.

“The best thing I did was to beep Jese to drive away. Sometimes you want to answer back but you can’t put yourself on that level.”
