Emery ‘values’ Sevilla victory

Unai Emery said his side’s 2-0 win over Villarreal at El Madrigal was of ‘great value’ to their Champions League aspirations.

Emery’s team claimed a third win over the Yellow Submarine in 10 days to move four points behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid and six clear of Villarreal  in sixth.

The victory came courtesy of second-half strikes from Coke and Vitolo, although the hosts were unfortunate to have hit the woodwork twice as they tried in vain to overcome the in-form Andalusians.

“Only Real Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia have won here because Villarreal always demand the maximum of you and make you suffer,” Emery told a Press conference.

“You need to be very focused and today we took another step forward, so I’m satisfied with my team’s work.

“This was a win of great value as it puts us on 55 points and will give us a lot of confidence.”

However, the 43-year-old acknowledged Villarreal’s cause had not been helped by a number of injuries to key players.

“They had some important players missing. Even so, we wanted to win and knew we’d have to keep a tight line between defence and attack.

“The only thing to do now is think about ourselves and try to be competitive in every game. That’s the way we must continue,” he added.
