Emery praises ‘impeccable’ Villarreal

Unai Emery has warned Sevilla that Villarreal will prove a much-tougher proposition in La Liga when they rematch at El Madrigal on Sunday.

The Andalucians eliminated the Yellow Submarine from the Europa League at the last 16 stage on Thursday, emerging victorious 5-2 on aggregate, but the Coach still has the utmost respect for Marcelino’s ‘impeccable’ side.

“La Liga is our most important competition,” he began at a Press conference.

“Regardless of having beaten them twice, Villarreal are still a great team, whose track record in the League is impeccable.

“We need to be at our best. Some of the lads who played on Thursday will play, as will some of the others waiting for a chance. Regardless of who plays, I want to see a well-defined game from Sevilla.

“For the purposes of the table, we want to win in order to be closer to the top, but we’re aware that we can’t compete with [Real] Madrid and Barcelona in the League. Therefore, I’ll be watching the Clasico as a spectator.

“[On Vitolo’s Spain call-up], I congratulate him for making the grade at a club like Sevilla, who have also given him the platform to grow.

“It’s a pleasure for everyone [associated with the club]. It’s difficult to get a call and stay in [the squad], but it would be a joy if he stayed [in the squad] for another two years.”
