‘Valencia have waited for this’

Nuno Santo hailed Valencia’s 4-0 victory over Elche in La Liga on Friday as “the fruits of this team’s hard work and humility.”

Goals from Andre Gomes, Paco Alcacer and Nicolas Otamendi, sandwiched by Enzo Roco putting the ball into his own net, handed Los Che their fifth win in six matches, and the Coach felt his side’s performance at the Martinez Valero was the pinnacle of their season so far.

“It’s a strong result, which all Valencianistas had been hoping to find for a while,” he said after the match.

“It’s the fruits of this team’s hard work and humility. We were superior in almost every segment of the game.

“This result reflects our work, not only of this match, but that of a long time.

“Elche are normally a good team at home, but they fell on their sword after the first two goals went in.

“[The euphoria in the dressing room won’t spill over] because we know that our priorities are next training session and match.

“I’m not thinking beyond the match against Villarreal [after the international break] because it’ll be very difficult.”
