‘Atleti must forget Madrid wins’

Clemente Villaverde has warned Atletico Madrid that their favourable record against Real Madrid will mean nothing when they meet again next month.

Los Colchoneros are unbeaten in six matches against their arch-rivals this season and have been paired with them in the Champions League quarter-finals, but the managing director claims it would be wrong of his club to think about their past results.

“Real Madrid were in the hat and we will face them again, making it eight times this season,” he told UEFA’s official website after the draw.

“When these things happen you just have to take it on the chin. Remembering what has been and gone doesn't help at all.

“We have to concentrate on this tie and give Madrid the respect they deserve. Football has no memory, it is lived day to day.

“It would be a mistake to think of our last few results against Madrid. All that matters is the here and now.”
