La Liga’s finest to learn CL fate

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will all discover their respective fates in the Champions League quarter-finals from 11:00 GMT today.

La Blaugrana reached the last eight for as many seasons in succession following their elimination of Manchester City in the first knockout round.

However, they crashed out to Atleti at the quarter-finals last season, and there is the distinct possibility of another all-Spanish tie this time around.

With that, a first European Clasico since 2011’s infamous semi-final – a double-header in light of this weekend’s domestic bout – could be in the offing.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are the next team looking to break the holders’ hoodoo, with no-one before them in the modern era successfully retaining their title.

Last but not least, Atleti overcame Bayer Leverkusen on penalties and may relish Spanish opposition, given their impressive record against them in recent times.

The draw will be held at UEFA’s Nyon headquarters in Switzerland, while the first legs will be played on April 14/15, with the return games scheduled a week later.
