Sergio Ramos defends Ronaldo

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has leapt to the defence of teammate Cristiano Ronaldo following Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Levante.

The Portuguese has looked slightly downcast of late despite two goals in the Champions League defeat to Schalke, and was largely anonymous in the Levante game.

However, Ramos insists Madrid are not worried about his dip in performances and believes Ronaldo deserves to be honoured for everything he brings to the team.

“It’s difficult being Cristiano because he’s been performing at a very high level for a number of years,” he told the club’s official website.

“He knows himself better than anyone and he’s a very competitive person, so we’re not worried because we must appreciate what he brings to the team.”

Ramos was at pains to stress that he feels there is no reason for Madrid to push the panic button following their recent blip, whilst saying he believes they still have a great chance of winging La Liga and the Champions League.

“The Levante game was tough considering the run of form we’ve had and the pressure here is greater than at any other team. We have to accept that although I don’t think there is cause for concern.

“There is still two months of the season left and we have one point less than the leaders, while we are also in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, which is a tournament that it exciting us again.”
