JIM praises Almeria players

Almeria boss Juan Ignacio Martinez was quick to praise his players following the 0-0 home draw with high-flying Villarreal.

The Andalusians remain two places clear of the relegation zone, level on points with Deportivo la Coruna and Levante, yet Martinez felt it was a point gained against a Villarreal side that has been in impressive form of late.

“When you don’t win you are annoyed but having watched the game I feel as if I have to congratulate my players,” he told a Press conference.

“They made a fantastic effort but against a team such as Villarreal we knew it would be really difficult as they put you under a lot of pressure.

“However, they didn’t pose us a great threat despite their forwards being very dangerous. We worked hard and created chances and tried to neutralise them.

“This was the Almeria the fans expect and want to see in every game, although football is about goals and if you don’t score them you don’t win matches.

“Even so, I’m left with a good feeling and what we did against Villarreal speaks volumes about this team,” he declared.
