‘Malaga need to regain humility’

Javi Gracia has urged his Malaga players not to fall down the complacency trap when they host La Liga basement boys Cordoba on Sunday.

The Andalucians’ run of back-to-back victories ground to a halt last weekend as they lost 1-0 to regional rivals and relegation battlers Granada, and the Coach is demanding a far more humble performance from his side this time out.

“[The match against Cordoba] is very important and we must be very ambitious, since points are also important to our opponents,” he said at a Press conference.

“[Some of our recent opponents] have been looking for vital points, but we should isolate ourselves [from our relegation rivals] and focus on our own objectives.

“We have to prove [our credentials] and feel [good about ourselves] or our opponents will convince us otherwise, like Granada did.

“We can’t repeat our [Granada] performance. We have many things to improve on.

“We should remember what we’ve already achieved this season. Our recent poor results must give the players a warning not to forget their daily work.

“Cordoba bolstered their ranks during the winter and will surely make life difficult for Malaga, and this gave the example of "the difficulties of an entire Valencia yesterday to win a Sport ".

"We have to face [Cordoba] with the humility, in that it takes a lot of you to win.

“Cordoba have improved, despite their recent defeats. Their results are misleading" because they’ve caused opponents many difficulties and have been given many doses of bad luck.”
