Luis Enrique has sarcastically responded to claims that Barcelona played slowly during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Eibar on Saturday.
La Blaugrana needed a brace from Lionel Messi either side of half-time to secure all three points at Ipurua, but their performance was met by a mixed reaction from some media quarters.
“Being effective during games is very important,” the Coach said after the game.
“Trying to master them is also important. It was a historic visit [to Ipurua] and a special match.
“We gave a very good and solid performance against opponents who posed us many problems.
“We’re in perfect condition. We don’t consider [next week] our most important, but a very nice one.
“It’s one which will decide whether or not we progress to the quarter-finals [of the Champions League] because [Manchester] City have great quality. We’ll see what the week holds.
“[Eibar] don’t play like they’ve gone seven weeks without winning. They proved themselves to be a very well-drilled team.
“They’re in a privileged position [on merit. I hope their problems pass and they can save themselves.
“I have a great squad and [having one] makes it easier to manage change. Eibar was the only match which mattered. We won deservedly.
“[Slow build-up play?] Ask Eibar if we play slow. We had a very good game and gave it the importance it deserved.”
