Nuno revises Valencia points target

Nuno Santo has conceded that Valencia will need more than 70 points if they want to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Los Che look destined for a top-four finish in La Liga as they currently sit on 54 points, five clear of nearest challengers Sevilla, with 12 matches remaining, but the Coach warned his team ahead of Deportivo La Coruna on Friday that they could not afford to rest on their laurels just yet.

“We’ll need more than the 70 points we predicted [would be enough] because becomes more difficult each year to finish high up in the table,” he said at a Press conference.

“Furthermore, our rivals are also having their best seasons. I think it’s best to prepare for the match [rather than focus on anything else].

“What we have to do is keep on adding points so we can be where we want, which is the Champions League.

“Deportivo play good football and their position [in the table] means they’re fighting for something important, but the spirit of revenge will blind our focus [referring to the 3-0 defeat at Riazor].

“We’re very strong when we have the support of the fans. I agree with everything which helps to eradicate violence from football, but not sanctions on clubs.”
