Costa to replace Pedro at Barca?

Barcelona are reportedly tracking Shakhtar Donetsk winger Douglas Costa in light of Marco Reus falling through and Pedro Rodriguez’s unhappiness.

The Catalans’ need for attacking reinforcements has been escalated due to Pedro’s possible summer departure, both Cristian Tello and Gerard Deulofeu unlikely to return and B starlets Munir El Haddadi, Adama Traore and Sandro Ramirez not considered first-team material just yet.

Barca remain interested in Reus, despite his recent decision to renew with Borussia Dortmund, but with La Blaugrana anticipating an avalanche of competition for the German’s signature once the transfer window reopens in July, their search for alternatives has taken them to Costa.

The 24-year-old has long been linked with a move to Camp Nou, while Coach Luis Enrique tried to sign the former Gremio forward when he was in charge of Roma during the 2011-12 season.

Barca have reportedly sent former player-turned-scout Urbano Ortega to Munich for Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg between Bayern and Shakhtar, in which Costa is expected to feature.
