Godin: ‘Valencia were tough’

Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin felt Valencia were tough opponents following the 1-1 draw at the Vicente Calderon.

A sometimes bad-tempered clash between La Liga’s third and fourth-placed sides produced thirteen yellow cards and the dismissal of Valencia midfielder Javi Fuego in the last minute.

“It was a hard fought game and that’s to be expected because both teams are going for the Champions League spots,” the Uruguayan told reporters.

“We took a point and they all add up, although the aim was to win, but Valencia were difficult opposition. If football there are no merits because you either win, draw or lose.

“It was tough and the things that happened in the game were normal, nothing more. We’ll fight until the end of the season and then we’ll see if this point was a good one.

“Valencia and Sevilla are our two big rivals and in the games against them we ran a lot. We’ve said since the start of the season they are our direct rivals.

“Now the only thing on our mind is the next match,” he added.
