‘Being top doesn’t concern Barca’

Gerard Pique has insisted that Barcelona are not thinking about their new-found supremacy in La Liga following Sunday’s 6-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano.

The defender got on the scoresheet against the capital outfit at Camp Nou to record his best-ever season in front of goal with six strikes in all competitions and help the Catalans pip Real Madrid to first place in the Spanish top flight.

“Being top of the table is something which doesn’t concern us that much because the season is very long. It’s a long journey,” he told Canal+ after the game.

“We started the season well and had a slump, but now we seem to be in good shape again.

“I think winning La Liga with 100 points was an illusion. Now it’s harder, teams are more competitive and want you to drop more points.

“[Eibar] is a dangerous game because they’re not in good form at the moment and [Ipurua] has always been a difficult venue.”
