Marcelino relieved after ‘intense’ week

Villarreal Coach Marcelino has spoken of his relief at seeing the back of an ‘intense’ week ahead of Sunday’s match against Celta Vigo.

The Yellow Submarine emerged unscathed from their two-legged Europa League last-32 tie with Red Bull Salzburg, before picking up a draw at Real Madrid and suffering a heavy defeat to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg.

“Beating [Celta Vigo] won’t be easy, but the match comes at a great time for us,” the former Sevilla and Zaragoza boss said at a Press conference.

“Celta are a team who will demand a lot of us. They have a very attacking game and must be marked all over the pitch. They attack and fight well.

“It’ll be an end-to-end match, and whoever is more clinical in their box will win, so we must be patient and have clear ideas in attack.

“We have to show that we’re improving in terms of maturity, but obviously it won’t be easy after such an intense week against [Red Bull] Salzburg, [Real] Madrid and Barcelona.

“To achieve the win, we must approach the game with maximum concentration.

“Before December, we had occasional weeks off for the international break, but not now. There’s been little time to rest, but the team have taken it extremely well.”
