Xavi ready to leave Barca?

Xavi Hernandez has decided to leave Barcelona at the end of the season for either a club in Qatar or the United States, according to Marca.

The midfielder’s contract expires next summer, yet a report in the Madrid-based publication claims he is already making plans to seek pastures new once the current campaign runs its course.

The 34-year-old is believed to be keen on winding down his career at a slower pace, thus making Qatar and the United States his likeliest destinations.

Marca adds Xavi has already received an offer from an unnamed Qatari club, worth €6m net over three seasons, and that his family would not be averse to living in the Arab nation.

Latterly, New York City’s interest in the World Cup winner remains alive, with his agent Ivan Corretja understood to be in continuous dialogue former Barca directors Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano – now employed by the American side’s parent club Manchester City.

Unless unforeseen circumstances intervene, akin to last season, Xavi is expected to wait until the summer before announcing his departure, given his role as Barca captain and wish not to jeopardise the club’s pursuit of La Liga, the Copa del Rey and Champions League.

Additionally, Barca have reportedly given the former Spain international his blessing to move on, although it remains to be seen whether they will warrant a transfer fee for his services,

Xavi has scored one goal and laid off five assists to teammates in 25 appearances for Barca this season.
