Perez: Valencia can match Atleti

Enzo Perez is adamant Valencia have what it takes to beat Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Sunday.

Los Che head into the top-four encounter just a point behind the champions in the table, and the Argentine midfielder – a recent €25m arrival from Benfica – has expressed his team’s belief that they can match their opponents.

“It’ll a very difficult game against a great team, who are playing in the Champions League and on the up,” he told Marca.

“We must go game by game, which is what has led us to the top four. We’re always self-critical.

“The most important thing here is not the individual but the team and that Valencia win.

“The Coach makes the decisions. I’m adapting well but I still have things to work on.

“Sometimes, despite being experienced, it’s not easy to play in another League and adopt other ideas, but things have gone well so far and the team have continued to grow.

“I had the opportunity to work with [Diego] Simeone for six months at Estudiantes, although he has evolved since then.

“His idea is to play intensely and not give the ball away. We know it’ll be a game like that, but we’ll try to counter that and have a good match.

“Atletico are the champions, ahead of us [in the table] and at home, so they’re the favourites.

“They have to please everyone, but we’ll try to have a great game and do things in the best way possible in order to achieve a good result.”
