Salvo: ‘Gaya will stay with Valencia’

Valencia executive President Amadeo Salvo is confident left-back Jose Luis Gaya will sign a contract extension with the club.

The 19-year-old has recently been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but Salvo believes negotiations between Los Che and the player will be resolved shortly and pointed to a willingness from both sides to reach an agreement.

“We are making a huge effort with Gaya as we feel he is worth it,” revealed Salvo during an interview with the club’s official radio station.

“He’s a player who has a fantastic future. Both sides are happy and want to find a solution. When Madrid come knocking then enough is enough and it’s time to put down a marker.

“Gaya is a fantastic lad and we are eager for him to remain at Valencia, although negotiations of this nature are not a simple process.

“We said we’d speak to all the players whose contracts expire in 2016 with a view to renewals and we’ve contacted them all. We’ve also sat down at the table with some of them.”

Salvo also looked ahead to Sunday’s game with Atletico Madrid, one that could be vital in the fight for Champions League places.

“It won’t be definitive for either side. If we win we’ll have a two-point advantage over them and if we lose we’ll be four points behind, but I don’t see it as being that decisive.

“We are moving forward very well, with some great results, and can only look back objectively at the end of the season,” he explained.
