Elche merited point feels Escriba

Fran Escriba claimed his Elche team deserved to take a point after coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Celta Vigo on Monday night.

A controversial David Lomban penalty two minutes from time earned Elche a vital point in their struggle to avoid relegation, following Michael Krohn-Dehli’s opener on the hour mark.

However, Escriba told reporters after the game that he felt his side were full value for a share of the spoils.

“I honestly believe that the goal we scored was justice because we were the better team, particularly in the first half,” he maintained.

“After the break they began strongly and had two or three good chances, which is where their goal came from. But my team was always looking to score and we deserved the point.”

Escriba admitted the result gave his players a little breathing space at the bottom, where they are now two points clear of the drop zone.

“The draw was a good result, even more so for how it was achieved. The feeling I’ve got from the team since Christmas is that we are moving forward.

“I’m very satisfied with the players because they did everything we had talked about,” he concluded.
