Sergio Gonzalez insists Espanyol are ready for their cup commitments next week following their slender 1-0 win against Cordoba in La Liga on Friday.
Abraham’s goal on the stroke of half-time was enough for the Catalans to move up to eighth in the table and head into Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg with Athletic Bilbao on the back of a morale-boosting victory.
“[We didn’t struggle] because of our concentration but rather we were too relaxed and confident,” the Coach said after the game.
“Perhaps the result might have been different. [Cordoba’s chances] came from our mistakes, but the most important thing was to get the win.
“It was very difficult against opponents who never give up. In addition, the pitch wasn’t easy [to play on].
“[The Copa del Rey match] won’t have any similarities with this game. It's a special match and we’re all very excited.
“We’ll need all our fans [in attendance] and hopefully we’ll have a great night.
“I don’t think the fans left [the stadium] disenchanted. They’re very excited because it’s a special game for everyone.”
