Luis Enrique has refused to answer questions on whether he would like Dani Alves to remain a Barcelona player next season.
The right-back is out of contract at the end of the season and the Catalans have yet to offer him a new deal, but the Coach was not prepared to be drawn into the furore surrounding the Brazilian’s future at his weekly Press conference.
“Every match is very difficult,” he said ahead of Barca’s trip to Granada in La Liga on Saturday.
“Our opponents come into this match in need of points and have always made life difficult for us.
“As you reach the end of the season, earning points is compulsory. We want to create chances on the break and base ourselves on a good defence.
“Dani’s one of the nicest guys in the dressing room and a winner.
“I know him both professionally and personally. He’s a true example to everyone [at the club].
“It wasn’t the first time he left the pitch sad or angry. It happens to many players.
“I feel fantastic about [Sergio] Busquets’ renewal. He’s a unique professional and [his renewal’s] good news for us.
“My team selections show I have confidence in Alves. He’s a unique player and the appropriate people will make a decision [on his renewal].
“We must wait for the final judgment [on the Neymar saga] from the experts in these types of situations. We can only focus on football.
“I can’t give minutes to everyone. Xavi has done very well and helped the team. For me it it’s a shame.
“The important thing is the performance from each match. If you’re on a winning streak, the better it is.
“At the end of the season, we’ll assess how this Barcelona have done.
“There’s still room for error. If you look at the calendar and throughout recent seasons, you’ll see that we can still win the league.”
