‘Quique knew Getafe’s situation’

Getafe President Angel Torres doesn’t believe Quique Sanchez Flores quit the club because Sammir is to be sold, arguing he knew the reality.

Sanchez Flores’ decision was announced on Thursday and El Geta are now looking for their third Coach of the season after Cosmin Contra left for a job in China.

It was suggested at the Press conference to confirm his departure that Sanchez Flores felt let down by the decision to sell Sammir but Torres has said that he’s the one who has been wronged.

“If anyone can feel hurt it’s me,” he said, AS reports.

“Quique knew the difficulties we are facing. He knew we couldn’t sign anyone and he knew Getafe is a selling club.

“He has decided to go and there’s nothing we can do. He has a [contract] clause and he’ll pay. Maybe there’s something there.

“We had a nice project together for two-and-a-half years and he has left me with nothing.

“Quique says he’s gone for personal reasons. Neither I nor the players have been told he has gone [because of Sammir]. He said there are personal things.

“I’ve told [the sporting director] to look for someone young and with enthusiasm for these four months. If we get it right now, good, and if not, I accept responsibility.

“Surely not until Sunday or Monday will we have a new Coach, so [B team Coach] Pablo Franco is charge of training and the Malaga game.”
