Martinez a pawn in Barca elections?

Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez could be pivotal in the forthcoming Barcelona elections as a promise from the Presidential candidates.

Mundo Deportivo suggests that Martinez, a long-term target at Camp Nou, could be ripe for a return to Spain when Barca’s transfer embargo is up in January 2016.

Pep Guardiola wanted Martinez at Barca and the club has remained keen on the former Athletic Bilbao midfielder-defender.

Mundo Deportivo report that unnamed candidates to oppose Josep Maria Bartomeu will claim they will sign Martinez for Barca if they’re election bid is successful.

Martinez’s contract in Germany expires in the summer of 2017 but it’s speculated that should Guardiola leave Bayern in summer 2016, Martinez will be easier to pry away.

Bartomeu is though, as it stands, the only candidate to publically declare for the end-of-season election.
