Moya: Atleti relying on the Calderon

Miguel Angel Moya feels the Champions League tie with Bayer Leverkusen is ‘delicate’ after the first leg defeat but will be different at Vicente Calderon.

Atletico return home with a 1-0 defeat from Germany, Hakan Calhanoglu scoring the only goal of the game in spectacular fashion while Tiago Mendes was sent off.

Diego Simeone suggested after the match that it could have been a much worse result and Moya agreed, as the one-goal deficit can be overturned.

“It could have been worse, yes. We didn’t expect this result but with the sending off we had to close the spaces and 1-0 is recoverable,” the goalkeeper said, AS reports.

“It’s a sad time but we’re back home [for the return leg]. 1-0 is a complicated and delicate result but we have guarantees and the tie is open.

“They were dominant for 25-30 minutes but they didn’t have clear chances. From there we have had two chances but football is about being forceful.

“We lost a lot of second balls and the second half was more even, and with the sending off it was complicated.

“It’s been tough in terms of intensity, which is a sensitive issue. They complicated the game and played well. And the goal comes from playing in the spaces, with speed we couldn’t counter and they scored a good goal I couldn’t stop.”
