Modric to feature at weekend?

Luka Modric could be ready to mark his return from injury against Villarreal in La Liga this weekend, according to reports in Spain.

The 29-year-old was sidelined with a thigh injury in November and had not been expected to complete his return until mid-March, but AS claims that his recent progress has been rapid.

The newspaper adds that the Croatia international completed his first full training session on Tuesday, playing on a half-size pitch and passing, crossing and shooting the ball without any complaints.

Consequently, Coach Carlo Ancelotti is believed to be seriously considering the possibility of including Modric in his squad to face the Yellow Submarine at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

However, the club’s medical staff will have the final word on whether the former Tottenham midfielder is fit enough to be called up and will use his performance in training on Saturday as a marker.

If Villarreal is too soon then Madrid will revisit Modric’s condition next week for the match against Athletic Bilbao, ahead of the Clasico on March 22, in which they hope to have him back at his best.
