‘Atleti have been waiting for Leverkusen’

Miguel Angel Moya has revealed Atletico Madrid have been eagerly anticipating the return of the Champions League and their game against Bayer Leverkusen.

The sides meet at the Germans’ BayArena on Wednesday and the goalkeeper has discussed the fixture with AS.

“The Champions League is always special. That’s the truth. This is the game we’ve been waiting weeks for,” Moya admitted.

“It will be a complicated game. This year they’re not doing so well in the Bundesliga but they’ve started to do better.

“We’ll go with the utmost respect but also great hope of getting a result that gives us an advantage.

“They have a very good attack. [Hakan] Calhanoglu is a great free-kick taker. But the good thing is that Leverkusen is a unit, like us, a team.

“It’s always good that opponents don’t arrive with great morale but when you change to another competition, it’s forgotten. They’ll be highly motivated, like us.”
