Jemez wants ‘brave & dynamic’ Rayo

Paco Jemez believes a ‘brave and dynamic’ Rayo Vallecano can heap more home misery on Athletic Bilbao.

The Basques haven’t won at San Mames since a week 12 victory over Espanyol and face Jemez’s side on Sunday night.

Jemez told reporters that if Rayo go to Athletic and play with courage, they can achieve something remarkable on what is his 100th League game in charge.

“It’s a new opportunity and I’m not willing to let it go,” he said, AS reports.

“I want a brave and dynamic team. Having Rayo fans at San Mames will be extra motivation for us.

“Athletic have players of a very high level. They’re not going to give anything away so I ask for peak intensity.”

Jemez, who said little about the match-fixing allegations surrounding Antonio Amaya from his time at Real Betis but did offer his support to the defender, also touched on the club’s anti-homophobia stance as well as his centenary.

“We’re a club that wants to help. We’re a club against homophobia and so we were the laces,” Jemez added regarding the rainbow-coloured laces the players will wear on their boots.

“It’s very difficult to reach 100 games in the Primera and even more at a team like Rayo. I’m happy and hopefully we’ll win.”
