Josep Maria Bartomeu says he has ‘no doubts’ about Barcelona’s chances against Manchester City in the Champions League next week.
La Blaugrana were shocked 1-0 at home by Malaga in La Liga on Saturday, courtesy of Juanmi’s early goal at Camp Nou, which resulted from Dani Alves’ error, but their President is keeping positive ahead of facing the English champions in the last 16.
“There are still many games [in the season to go], but we must congratulate Malaga for controlling the game and not letting us attack,” he said after the game.
“This team have a very well-defined style of play. The players worked hard, but Malaga did very well defensively.
“We had shots on target, but Malaga scored a goal in the opening minutes and we couldn’t recover from it.
“However, the team did well and played to win. La Liga is very long and we’re only one point behind the leaders, with still many points to play for.
“I have no doubts about [our] Champions League [tie]. We have until Tuesday to focus on [Manchester] City.
“We’re talking with [Sergio] Busquets. He’s been here for many years and has been a guarantee of our success.
“When the time’s right, the [club] officials will deal with numbers.”
