Busquets: Barca deserved losers

Sergio Busquets has conceded that Malaga ran out deserved 1-0 winners over Barcelona in La Liga on Saturday.

La Blaugrana failed to dethrone Real Madrid from the League summit after they were defeated by Juanmi’s early goal, which came about from a misunderstanding between Dani Alves and Claudio Bravo.

“I don’t think we lost individual duels. They scored the goal and locked themselves up,” the defensive midfielder said after the match.

“We tried to exploit the wings but couldn’t find that last pass, didn’t make any clear-cut chances and were caught offside a lot.

“[Malaga’s] two lines of four were very focused, in the middle it was impossible [to break them down]. We tried to go outside but it wasn’t to be.

“It’s a shame [we lost ground in the title race], but more so because we dropped three points and couldn’t continue our good run of form.

“I think in the Champions League, you’ll see a different team. [The tie against Manchester City] will be difficult, but it’s another competition, a [two-legged] tie.

“The team must continue in the dynamic [it was in before], but [the defeat by Malaga] was no-one’s fault in particular and should never be blamed on a single player.”
