‘Beat Barca? Anyone can beat anyone’

Malaga defender Weligton has acknowledged the challenge facing the side when they go to Barcelona on Saturday but isn’t ruling out a good result.

Javi Gracia’s team were the first to take anything against the Catalans this season, recording a 0-0 draw at La Rosaleda in September, and Weligton has spoken to AS in advance of the re-match.

The veteran was involved in an unseemly incident with Lionel Messi in the first match and discussed what it’s like to face the Argentine.

“We’re prepared. It’s another game, with three points. Marking Messi is difficult. We know how to play but stopping him is complicated. Hopefully he doesn’t have a good day and we have a better one,” he admitted.

“Football is nice [for surprise results], because anyone can beat anyone. We know of the difficulties and they are in the best form of the season. But if there are possibilities, we’ll find them.

“It was a different game [at La Rosaleda]. I’m hoping for a repeat. We can stand up to Barca and hopefully get out of there with a win or a draw.

“Going to Camp Nou or Santiago Bernabeu is very complicated, but in my opinion, Barca have the best squad because they always maintain the same style of play. I think Barca is more complicated.”
